Questions about the 5k event
All fitness levels are welcome in the 5k. There is no time limit or requirement about running. The majority of the route is on a paved surface with some packed dirt and gravel.
We love your dogs, which is why it is best to leave them at home. For the safety and comfort of all who will be participating, please leave all pets at home.
Anyone who can cover the 3.1 mile distance of the 5k course is welcome to participate in the 5k event. For children under 12 years old, we ask that a parent or guardian participate in the event with them for safety.
Questions about the Virtual Run
Virtual running works exactly the same as any other type of running but the difference is that the entered race can be run at any location, at any pace, inside on a treadmill or outside in another country! All you have to do is enter the race. We'd love to see you in action, so please remember to post your pictures on Instagram with #VirtualHomeRun5K and be sure to tag us @WindermereHomeRun to share the fun!
If you register before the October 7th cutoff, we will mail you your race bib and some SWAG before the race so that you can wear your bib on your run/ walk. You are still welcome to register after October 8th, but you may not receive your items before the October 16th event date.
100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Windermere Foundation - It's a great opportunity to get your friends and/or your kids to race with you too!
Questions about the kid's dash event
The kid's dash event will take place near the start/ finish area for the 5k run and will be approximately 200 meters.
All children are welcome to participate in the kid's dash, though the distance will be most appropriate for children between the ages of 6-10 years old. We encourage any child who wants to to participate.
Absolutely! If you child is up to the challenge and is physically prepared to run about 3 1/2 miles, they are more than welcome to participate in both, we just ask that you register them for each race. The Kid's Dash will start at 9:00AM with the 5k starting at 9:30AM, so please plan accordingly.
Questions about the Windermere Foundation - the beneficiary of the event
The Windermere Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization created by Windermere Real Estate in 1989. The organization started with a focus purely on helping homeless families and later expanded to include low-income families, and now supports many organizations with an emphasis on helping children. Watch this short video to learn more.
For the past 30 years a portion of every Windermere agent's commission has been donated to the Windermere Foundation. Additionally, our offices rally to put on other events, such as the Home Run, to raise additional funds. Having 100% participation gives us a common purpose and sends a powerful message about our commitment to community.
Applications for funding must be submitted directly to a local Windermere office for consideration. Click on this link for a PDF document with more information on the types of programs that are supported and how to apply.
